For Sean-- Artist Jo Smail

Jo Smail is an artist that deals with using canvas on her paintings as cutouts or shapes. There is literally painted pieces of canvas cutouts on each painting.

I really like her "Statements" where she talks about her work, such as painting.

THE  PAINTINGS
Bare canvas:  a constant reminder of beginnings
I patch:  construct, build
I glue:  cover up
I tear:  like giving birth
I cut:  damage or break
I wrap:  like clothing
I paint:  reveal, excavate
Pattern evokes origins
