Thursday Feb. 23 left Albuquerque at 3:10 am. (There is a Western film call "3:10 to Yuma") Stoping every few hours to see dead end roadside stores and desert attractions like "The Thing" we arrived in Tuscon, AZ for lunch. We then walked up to Etherton Gallery to look at a photo show called Terra Mater that actually featured a former UNM Grad Christopher Colville. I dont have any pics of the show because we were not allowed to take any(sorry). Finally got to Yuma, AZ after twelve hours on the road. I set up my tent to camp in the backyard of a pottery and clay works studio (I don't have all my notes at the moment so I will post the actual business name when I come across it.)
Went to Lutes Casino, which isn't an actual casino, but a large bbq restaurant and bar for the annual meet and greet/pin swap. This was extremely fun. Attendees are encouraged to make pins/buttons to bring for the first day and trade. I made some flowers. These are the pins I got in the swap. There were so many more people, but I only made a limited amount (20) and they went quick, everyone is there to meet new people and reconnect with old friends, I didn't know at the time I was attending the 38th annual Yuma Art Symposium. That shows a lot of dedication on those affiliated and also the guest lecturers and students that come to this event year after year.
